236th Anniversary of the Battle of Harlem Heights

On this date 236 years ago (September 16, 1776), George Washington led his troops to victory at the Battle of Harlem Heights. It was Washington’s first victory. It is also, according to some accounts (but not others), the first time that George Washington met Alexander Hamilton, making it a very important day in history.

This plaque on Broadway near Columbia University commemorates the victory. (I took these photos on August 19, 2012.)
